Galanthus ‘Fieldgate Imp’

A distinctive and rather mischievous snowdrop, with strongly recurved outer segments that give the flower an almost impish expression. The outer segments carry a bold, elongated green marking towards the apex, while the inner segments are neatly marked in green. The flowers are held on sturdy stems above narrow, grey-green foliage, and the plant has a notably robust constitution.

‘Fieldgate Imp’ was selected by Matt Bishop in 2012 from seedlings in the garden of the late Colin Mason in Warwickshire, and was named in honour of Colin. It is generally treated as a Galanthus × valentinei hybrid, reflecting its mixed G. plicatus × G. nivalis heritage. Avon Bulbs subsequently helped to distribute it, describing it as a particularly robust plant with strongly recurved outer petals. 

A snowdrop with attitude — and one of the rare ones whose name actually seems to fit the flower.
